Art, just for the love of it

Temple of Fine Arts (TFA) is a cultural institution where all arts, and the Indian arts in particular, are cherished, taught, practiced and offered back to the community just for the love of it.

Sivakami Sreenivasan is a Bharathanatyam and Nattuvangam graduate from the Temple of Fine Arts, Singapore, where she trained under Kumari Sujatha Rajagopalan and Kumari Lakshmi Krishnan. She was honored with the prestigious Nrithyanjali title twice, in 2010 and 2024, recognizing her outstanding contributions to Indian classical dance.

A seasoned performer and educator, Sivakami has toured internationally across India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the United States. Her solo production Yaatra – A Journey Within debuted in 2013 under the guidance of Kumari Lakshmi Krishnan, further establishing her as a thoughtful and evocative artist. She has also contributed to major TFA productions such as Ramayana – An Asian Confluence and Abhaya, and was actively involved in arts education outreach in Singapore.

Now based in Austin, Sivakami serves as the Artistic Director of Temple of Fine Arts Texas, where she nurtures the next generation of dancers through training in Bharathanatyam, choreography, and arangetram preparation. Her teaching is enriched by over two decades of experience as a certified yoga instructor, her studies in Odissi and Kalaripayattu, and a deep understanding of movement anatomy, injury prevention, and recovery.

Sivakami received her nattuvangam training from Kumari Lakshmi Krishnan and the late Bhagavatula Sitarama Sharma of Chennai. She continues to refine her artistry through ongoing studies with Shri Mavin Khoo and Kumari Lakshmi Krishnan.

A distinguished alumna of the National University of Singapore with a Master’s degree, Sivakami began teaching in Austin in 2013. Her reverence for her Gurus and her dedication to preserving the rich traditions of Indian classical arts have fostered a thriving TFA community in Texas. She also spearheads collaborative initiatives among local classical artists, nurturing camaraderie and cultural exchange.
